The inventing game
The invention process can be risky and challenging for inventors. It is a gamble. Only a small percentage of inventions or products will succeed in the market. As a result, we were determined to create a low-cost, low-risk model to minimize the financial risk for inventors.
Never invest more than you can afford to lose. No single human knows for sure if your product can make money. But you have just as good a chance as anyone to invent the next global winner.
Most products will fail. But it just takes one simple idea to earn millions. If the product makes it, you are financially set. If it misses, simply try again.
The key to all innovation is problem-solving. The product must be a practical item that solves everyday problems in a unique and demonstrable way. Of course, the product must be good. An inventor needs to present the best made prototype or finished product they can.
Great companies are always looking for their next hit product. The market has never been hungrier for fresh ideas. The opportunity for inventors to thrive has never been greater.
We can assist you to make money on your product ideas. Don’t miss this opportunity to earn royalties on your innovation! Some inventors are banking millions! The next multimillion-dollar winner could be yours.
TV-Marketing
The “As Seen on TV” category is simply one of many distribution channels (places to sell your product). Every distribution channel and industry has its own licensing norms.
For TV-marketing, we are looking for low-cost, practical items. Successful products for TV are simple items that solve everyday problems in unique ways. Many TV-products seem to have two-word names starting with the same letter. Consider “Magic Mesh”, “Windshield Wonder”, “Jupiter Jack”.
On “As Seen on TV”, the product life cycle is short, but the sales are huge. Whereas most products will run for a decade or more, a homerun “As Seen on TV” product will have a short 1 to 5-year life cycle, but selling 5-8 million pieces per year. As a rule, for every 1 product that sell on TV, we can expect 10 sales at the retail shelf space.
Should your product be chosen for DRTV (Direct Response TV Marketing) in the USA, it is like winning the lottery!
With very little expense, on a $19.95 retail product, an inventor can earn: $11 wholesale price X 3% average royalty = $ 330 000 per million pieces sold (± R 6m).
ASOTV (“As Seen on TV”) companies will not move forward with a concept unless it’s believed the invention has the potential to sell AT LEAST one million units. Obviously, the goal is to sell significantly more!
Average inventors earn a guaranteed minimum of $ 250 000 (± R 4,5m) a year to millions of dollars.
According to Carrie Jeske in “Sell Crowdfunding Products on TV” (2018) successful “As Seen on TV” products clear between $1m - $5m for the product owner (R 18m - R 90M).
Royalties
A royalty is an amount paid by a third party to an owner of a product or patent for the use of that product or patent.
The typical percentage for royalty payments will be 3 - 5%. Royalty rates are typically calculated as a percentage of the wholesale cost of your product.
You can earn royalties using a simple smartphone demo video.
Understanding royalties is one of the most common sources of frustration, misunderstanding and arrogance on the part of inventors and manufacturers. Most tend to focus, improperly, on the royalty percentage rate. We’ve all seen inventors walk away over a percentage point or turn their backs on an opportunity believing they won’t get their fair share. Of course, the inventor should be compensated for the initial idea and an effort that attracted interest. At the same time, the manufacturer needs a healthy profit to offset the monumental expense and risk of launching a new product into mass market retail.
The royalty depends on many details including profit margin, how developed the invention is, patent protection, risk and investment requirements.
Keep your eye on actual dollars, not percentages. Be happy with your slice of the pie and don’t get too greedy about royalty rates.
Inventors often blow their own deal by asking for too much, too soon. The lesson is this: when a billion-dollar company knocks on your door wanting a licensing agreement, take the deal, say thank you and be likeable, then collect your royalties and enjoy your life! Don’t blow your own deal by asking for too much. You must look at the bigger picture. Take a small royalty and collect passive money with no cost, work or time.
You have just as much chance as anyone to be a part of it. As an inventor, time and circumstances are on your side. Believe success is certain and enjoy the ride.
How does it work?
We assist inventors, innovators, start-ups, product developers, designers, engineers, patent holders, makers or even a dreamer, to source companies in the USA to enter into royalty agreements with the Inventor in terms of which you can earn American Dollars. We can also assist suppliers of existing products, to expand distribution of their products and open the US market for them.
Our primary goal is to expand your understanding of taking a product to market while saving you time, energy, frustration and most of all, your money.
We connect great invention ideas with manufacturers and distributors to create real-life products. We are actively looking to assist with licensing new inventions in all categories and all stages of development, from napkin sketches to productive units.
Obviously you cannot approach major international global or US companies with mere sketches of your idea. You have to present a product that is market-ready for such companies to recognize the potential of your product.
It is the inventor’s job to present the product concept well.
This is where we come in. We will review and evaluate your invention and recommend next steps to develop your product to its full potential. We are your answer to develop and market your idea from A - Z. We can assist you every step of the way.
The review process typically takes a week. If your invention needs further development, we can connect you to our trusted partners to get it there. We work with industry and commerce partners to provide graphic design services and get a quote for you, only if and as required by you.
Depending on the degree of client preparation and the difficulty of the concept, InventorAssist typically offers the following services to assist the inventor in this regard:
Professional design
Construct a product sample or working model
Graphics: 2D line drawings, 3D CAD drawings, renderings, animations
Packaging and presentation materials
Design images and graphics suitable for presentation of the idea
App development: to develop a computer application for submission to a publisher of applications or for use in conjunction with a developed product
A demo video
Website development
The fees for these services are individually quoted based upon the complexity, type and anticipated design work and materials. On average, we take a consultancy and facilitating fee of 30%, included in the quote.
This is a great service for new inventors seeking direction for an undeveloped idea and for experienced inventors with market ready products. We are always seeking new invention ideas to commercialize.
We know every aspect of inventing because we have done it ourselves.
We have over 40 years of experience in creating and developing new products. We have also acquired the knowledge of presenting new products to US and global companies.
Over the years we’ve heard from inventors who’ve wasted thousands, tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of Rand/dollars pursuing their dreams and failing. InventorAssisit’s mission is to help inventors keep money in their pockets, increase their chances of success and commercialize great new product ideas.
InventorAssist will not evaluate your invention for market potential or patentability and cannot guarantee or offer opinions on your product’s market success. InventorAssist does not provide you with legal advice, but we will always be fair and honest in our dealings with you.
We look forward to seeing your inventions.

Submission to Companies
We have created and developed a smart invention marketing method.
We shall submit your product to some of the biggest companies in the world, all eager to find new invention ideas.
We represent innovations from new kitchen gadget designs to nano-technology and present them to companies ranging from niche industry players to corporate giants. We are open to things in all fields. Please refer to our category of products.
We have dedicated marketing agencies at our disposal who pitch winning ideas to our vast network of product manufacturers and marketing companies.
Companies will only license inventions that fit their current or future business plans. In general, the invention must be a perfect fit for a licensing deal to take place. Finding the right target is as important to licensing success as the invention itself.
That is why we launch a focused and dedicated marketing presentation only to companies that have expressed an interest in developing and distributing new innovative products, like yours. We do not take a cold approach to companies who may not be interested in expanding their businesses.
There is a chance that a major US company will say “Yes” and offer you a licensing deal that could pay royalties in US dollars for a decade or more: the jackpot so to speak! We want to give you the best possible chance to get a “Yes!”
More often than not, the US companies decline to offer a deal, but if they do, it will be very lucrative.
We have 8 marketing agencies and ± 600 licensing companies on our books. To fulfil the requirements of these companies, we have to develop your product from idea to reality. The stages for such development are the following:
Stage 1: Product search (by the inventor)
Stage 2: Design stage (by the inventor; but we can assist)
Stage 3: Presentation images (by the inventor; but we can assist)
Stage 4: Product sample / prototype ( by the inventor; but we can assist)
Stage 5: Presentation to up to 15 companies (by InventorAssist)
As soon as your product is fully developed and market ready, we prepare an executive presentation for your product and submit it to major US corporate giants and / or global companies.
The submission process is confidential and non-public. Your product will not be in the public domain and it therefore will not be fair game for competitors.
We will immediately contact you directly if we receive expressed interest or if a company has specific questions. Any licensing offers will be presented to the inventor. You will however need to be patient: the screening process by such companies takes time.
Traditional manufacturers often take up to 3 years and spend a lot of money getting a product on store shelves. Any outside communication from the inventor to a company during the presentation and development process may jeopardize on-going discussions.
Getting your product selected will get you on the road to making passive income with your inventions. Who wouldn’t want that!?
If you’re not quite ready to submit your product innovation to companies, that’s ok. Merely register as an aspiring inventor, and we will guide you on how to develop your idea to a marketable product.
Royalty Split
If your invention is licensed, you will be paid royalties with no further investment from you. We will arrange that the licensing company in the USA takes responsibility for production costs, patents, engineering, manufacturing, marketing and distribution, with no further costs to you.
We manage the negotiation process for you and ensure that you have the final decision on all aspects of the negotiation. After a license agreement is signed we will continue to manage the process to ensure that the company follows through on all aspects that were outlined in the agreement, including paying your royalties on time.
If a licensing or sale agreement is concluded with our assistance, we take a contingency fee / commission of 30% of all royalties and / or sales received by you. (You keep 70%). Your portion may still be very substantial. We only get paid if you get paid. We only make money if you make money! We do not lock up your invention, which means we only receive our 30% share if we are successful in landing a deal for you, not if you land a deal on your own.
We believe that’s a fair deal.

While you’re waiting for feedback, invent something else. Use the excitement and momentum to spark additional creativity and start talking in your circle of influence about problems and solutions in everyday life.
We recognize that many inventors have more than one invention idea. Therefore, if you have other invention ideas that you are thinking about pursuing, contact us in due course.
You should mention this opportunity to your family and friends. It is amazing how many good ideas are out there, but often people just do not know where to start. You do. You are connected to us and our resources.
Being candid and transparent is important to us. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to gain insight into our processes and methodology, and to answer all your questions.
Make a concept prototype
We advise you to start with the least expensive, highest quality prototype you can make based on your expertise and ability.
It can be a DIY construction using crude materials such as cardboard, foam, paper or wood, typically done to show the idea in 3D form. The goal is to demonstrate the product value and to visually explain the product features and benefits.
If you can get a 3D printed prototype that looks “market-ready”, you can use video magic to make the product appear demonstrably market-ready. If you understand your idea, it is possible for anyone to build a demonstration prototype at a very low cost. Low-cost does not mean low quality. It is important that the prototype looks as high quality as you can make it.
It is important to visualize the product and determine the best features and benefits of the design detail. Virtual prototypes can be made through 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) rendering, using software programs like SolidWorks at very low cost.
We can assist you to get a 3D printed prototype that looks “market-ready”. It is however imperative that we understand your idea to make it possible to build a demonstration prototype at a very low cost.
Create a demo video
Make a demo video of the prototype showing the product in action. Keep it short, simple and product focused. You don’t have to use a professional videographer to secure a licensing agreement. It is possible to shoot the demo video yourself using a smartphone or video recorder. Of course, you want to make the best video possible with the least amount of expense. The content is more important than the video quality. Smartphones work fine.
About 2-minutes is preferred. Less is more, when possible. A good rule of thumb is:
15 seconds to show the product
15 seconds to 1 minute to explain the problem
15 seconds to 1 minute to explain the benefits / value of the product
Now it’s time to post your video online in an “unlisted” setting on www.YouTube.com. Setting up your own YouTube channel is important. Sending large video files through email is cumbersome and takes up a lot of space. Companies like YouTube have paved the way for the independent inventor to have access to FREE storage and monitoring of proprietary videos.
If you’re not sure how to begin, simply ask Google. Type into a Google search bar the keywords, “How to set up a YouTube account” or “How to upload a video to YouTube”.
The content remains under your control, so you can delete the video at any time, change the password or mark it private. To maintain confidentiality with YouTube, adjust your settings so the video is “unlisted”. Remember to list the Product Name.
If you cannot master the YouTube process, send your video to us, via email at corrie@inventorassist.org
A demo video could be worth a million dollars.
Search for prior art
Do your own research.
Many products selling on the market do not have patents. Don’t waste time and money early on with patent searches; start with Google Images for free. Brainstorm a list of keywords that would describe your product, but don’t stop there. Using the right search term is critical to finding information online. Ask your family members or persons you trust what terms they might use to find a product like yours online.
You can also search for prior art with:
Google Videos
Click on Google Videos
Type in the product description along with the keywords “As seen on TV” or “ASOTV”
Amazon
Try a variety of keyword combinations to describe your idea and see what similar product pops up
Google Patents
There is a big difference between saleable and patentability. Rather focus on the former.
Remember, a patent attorney works to get a patent issued. It is not their job to evaluate the viability of the product in the first place. That job is what the inventor should be doing.
If you think your idea is still better than one you find, make the prototype and demo video and submit it to us.
